Initiation

I believe today was my real initiation into motherhood. Drew and I woke up to our daughter's soft whimpering from her bedroom. It's 5:45 am. Drew goes in to get her when he finds her soaking wet. Wet from what, you ask? Vomit. Real toddler vomit.

We bring her back to bed with us. 10 minutes later, more vomit. Crying. Snuggling. More vomit. Cleaning up. Tired whimpering. Changing jammies. New blanket. More vomit. Drew gets ready for work, kisses us good-bye. Close my eyes while little Makenna is trying to get comfortable next to me. More vomit. New jammies. New blanket. Sheets in the wash. More vomit. Are you beginning to see where my morning has been? The funny thing is...

1 early morning

2 girls in the bathtub

3 changes of comfy clothes

4 new blankets

5 loads of laundry

and 12 episodes of vomit... have made me extremely grateful to be a mommy. If all of those things give me one extra long morning of staying in pajamas in a makeshift pillow bed on the floor, with my 18-month-old snuggled under my arm, watching Sesame Street to our hearts' content... well, then, I'll take them.

Wow, you are seriously the best mom ever. I will never forget when Carter vomited like about 12 times as well and he was 4 months old, that was the very first time my heart ached with real pain for him. It is true, moments like this you really do feel like the initiation of motherhood is here. I am sorry she is sick, that is no fun. Hope she can feel better soon and grateful you can enjoy sesame street :)

You really are a wonderful mommy! I remember having the stomach flu as a kid and my mom getting up in the middle of the night, cuddling with me, holding my hair away from my face when I leaned over the bucket, and watching MASH in the wee morning hours. It's so awesome to have a loving mother to take care of you.

But seriously, you're awesome. I hope she feels better soon and you enjoy your snuggling.

I hope McKenna is feeling better! It's so hard to see your child so sick =(. Sometimes it's hard to know how to feel though - you're sad they're sick, but so happy that they let you cuddle them for so long!

Poor baby! Poor Mommy! Those are such bittersweet times. It's horrible for everyone to be sick, but sometimes it's nice to have
quiet cuddle time with the little ones!

Glad all is well now! And thanks again for giving me your phone germs! ;)
