Can I just say how overjoyed I am with my new calling? I loved my old calling of which I held for a mere 5 months (Valiant 10 teacher), but I am ECSTATIC to be the new Burke Ward...
BEEHIVE ADVISOR!!!
You may think me odd to have so much emotion accompanying a church calling, but hear me out. There are, have always been, two callings I have very strong feelings about.
The first being Gospel Doctrine Teacher- never had it, never want it. The only calling in the church I would actually regretfully decline. (I'd rather be a full time building janitor than be the gospel doctrine teacher; that's how strong my sentiments are).
But the 2nd calling among the two accompanied by very strong emotions is ANYTHING in the Young Women. In seven years of marriage, Drew has heard me pine over this church auxiliary. I've never had the pleasure of serving in this capacity. I feel like once the new ward peeps hear I play the piano, it's all downhill from there. But here, someone tuned into the true desires of my heart. I LOVE the youth. I LOVE teaching. I LOVE hanging out and doing fun things on Mutual night. This will be the most awesome calling ever.
And in honor of my excitement, I wanted to come in with a bang and make journals for the girls (the lesson on Sunday is about record keeping). Here's a picture of the final product, which I think turned out pretty cute.
P.S. This is not meant to be a "look-at-me, look at what I did" post; I'm just so excited to be in YW. I actually can't even believe I've devoted an entire post to a calling.

Yay! I love YW too...this is actually the first ward I've been in that I haven't been in YW! You'll have a blast. Those journals are adorable! If I had one like that, I may actually write in it =).
Do you get to go to Girls Camp??
p.s. I, too, cannot wait for the "team" reunion! I can't wait to see McKenna in person! Oh, and you and Drew too...=).
Haha! You are funny. I have to agree with you though. After being an EFY counselor one summer I fell in LOVE with the young women. I've always wanted a calling there but alas......you got it! Darn! JK :-)
AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! congrats! So excited for you--and these journals are SO CUTE!
Cute, cute.
Don't forget THE worst one... seminary teacher. Better add that to your list. Actually don't - it may jinx you!
Yay! You will LOVE YW's. Okay I totally understand where you are coming from on wanting to be in YW's. I have been in the presidency for a year now and love it. In fact, I don't want to move in fear that I will go from the fun of YW's to the nursery. Just you wait, I see it coming for sure... right as we move Carter will be going into the nursery. oh, to answer your question on my blog, we move July 10th. Those journals are ADORABLE. I would love to see you one more time before we move. I think we might be coming to D.C. on the 20th to see the mall one more time, if you want to meet us there.
I hope the Burke Beehives know how lucky they are! Seriously-- I bet they will count the hours until they can go to church on Sundays:) The journals are fabulous and I, for one, wish you would post MORE of all your creative projects! please.
The journals look really cute, the girls will love them. You are definitely perfect for this calling!
That's so cute, Kara!! :) I love it! Congratulations. That is a lot of fun! Judging by those amazing journals and your sweet enthusiasm I think the girls are in for a real treat! :)
P.S. We definitely need to get together sometime while I'm here in DC. I'll send you an email. :)
They turned out perfectly, Kara! Lucky B-hives! You'll be wonderful!
you'll be great! i had fun serving with your mom in yw's years and years ago, and i've probably served there longer than anyplace else.
but...
in reference to the note above... seminary teacher is truly the BEST calling i have ever had. the best. ever. truly. :)
I thought you were perfect for our children in Primary but I have to admit that the YW are going to love you!
Your albums are so adorable!
You have no idea how hard that makes me laugh. I want to hear all of the crazy stories you'll be a part of and the wild adventures you'll have... ;)
TOOT that horn girl! Those journals are SO cute! And YW is fun! I feel the same about Gospel Doctrine!! I am just glad I have a little baby and they are leaving me alone... for now...
