Following last month's Snow Disaster, I was joyful, yet hesitant to wake up last week to a good 8 inches of fallen snow outside. This time, however, I made a few valiant attempts to make it a "kid-friendly" snow day (I'm not discrediting my make-shift boot covers by any means): I made sure there was a well-shoveled walkway from our garage to the street; I put on Makenna's stylin' free snow boots; I put on the widest eyes and smile I could muster for reassurance; and I made a last-minute run up the street to Walmart to find a sled so my angel would not suffer the trauma of actually touching snow. All heroic pursuits, right? Especially the last one. How was I supposed to know that Walmart does not carry sleds the last days of February? How could I foresee the outcome of getting there only to find lounge chairs and planting seeds? How could I know that the only snow accessory left to purchase would be the X-Games Moto X Snow Racer Sled?
Oh well. Knowledge stored for next year. Meanwhile, my mind is racing through things that Makenna could lounge on while I push her through the tumultous snow... plastic quesadilla platter, old empty toolbox, top of a storage bin... when finally it came to me, "Show your daughter who's boss, her or the snow?" That's when I gathered up my camera, pulled on my awesome snow pants from college, said a quick prayer, and took my little one out into the sunshiney snow. No sooner were we blinded by the whiteness when I look down, little gloved hand in mine, and realize to my astonishment that there is NO WAILING AND GNASHING OF TEETH. Not only is she walking on actual snow, she's falling down and making failed attempt after failed attempt to get back up! Not wanting to press my luck, I cautiously drag her across the street and towards the playground. From there... success.

Sounds like fun!! That last picture of the ice/snow covered tree is beautiful! Gotta love the winter...!
I am glad this snow adventure went better for you. I was bummed for you that she was so sad last time. In fact, I even thought about you as it snowed and knew you would attempt it again, so I am glad it went well.
Yay!! I love the 2nd pic of her, close up in the pink coat. So cute.
Those pictures are so pretty it *almost* makes me wish for snow down here in Hades.
(Oh, and way to leave us hanging! Whatever happened with the "man eating" merry go round??)
Glad it worked it out! I didn't even try to leave the house. Gavin will just have to learn what snow is next year. Great pictures by the way!
Okay - so I haven't been blog-surfin' in forever. SOO fun to see you guys and darling M! I can't believe she is actually walking so well! You need to come back down and visit us. Oh and where is my picture of your new vinyl board?! EMAIL me! =)
